Piggly Wiggly
Established in 1911, the Schultz Brothers Company evolved into “Schultz Brothers Company Wholesale Grocers” by 1920. In 1949, the company entered into a franchise agreement, allowing them to operate as Piggly Wiggly in southern and eastern Wisconsin, alongside original franchisers in Sturgeon Bay, Manitowoc, Green Bay, and Kaukauna.
In 1962, the company acquired the Sav-O Corporation, a participant in the trading stamp business, leading to the formation of “Schultz Sav-O Stores, Inc.” This merger paved the way for the development of a sophisticated electronic marketing and customer relationship program. The introduction of the Piggly Wiggly Preferred Club Card marketing program in 1995 and the Pig Points gas discount program in 2006 showcased the company’s innovative approach.

From 1946 to 1976, Paul Skogen gradually acquired several small stores. Upon his retirement, Paul’s sons, Dave, Gary, Tom, along with Dave’s wife, Barb, assumed responsibility for the business operations. Recognizing shifting consumer preferences, the quartet made significant changes to the store’s layout, culminating in the establishment of the first Festival Foods store on June 29, 1990, in Onalaska.
