Merchants Moving & Storage Company
In 1921, E. W. Eastman founded Merchants Delivery, originally serving as a local merchant delivery service before expanding into local and long-distance residential moves. Following World War II, E.W. Eastman’s son, A. W. Eastman, diversified the family business by adding an IH/Navistar truck dealership, rental, and leasing company.
In 1982, Jim Eastman assumed the role of president and subsequently sold the truck leasing company and dealership. To fill the void left by these sales, Jim Eastman founded Archives, a records storage company, and Taskmasters, a high-quality moving service.
Jennifer Eastman, the great-granddaughter of founder E.W. Eastman, joined the company in 1996 as the company controller. In 2014, she succeeded her father as the fourth-generation leader and became the first female president of Merchants. Under Jennifer’s leadership, the company is dedicated to establishing an industry niche renowned for its unparalleled commitment to customer service.

Two Men and a Truck
In the early 1980s, Two Men And A Truck was born from the entrepreneurial spirit of two high school brothers, Brig and Jon Sorber. With over 35 years of industry expertise, the company has grown into a global enterprise with more than 350 locations worldwide. Originally, the Sorber brothers assisted Lansing, Michigan residents with their moves using an old pickup truck.
Their mother, Mary Ellen Sheets, played a pivotal role by creating the iconic logo, which continues to adorn every truck, sign, and advertisement associated with the company. Despite holding a full-time job processing data for the State of Michigan, Sheets remained committed to Two Men And A Truck, investing $350—her only capital—to purchase a 14-foot truck and hire two movers in 1985.
In 1988, Sheets was invited to participate in a graduate business panel at Michigan State University, where she received a recommendation to franchise Two Men And A Truck. Following the accumulation of 39 franchises, Sheets’ daughter, Melanie Bergeron, assumed the role of president. Brig and Jon Sorber returned in the mid-1990s to support their mother, with Brig serving as Chief Brand Officer and Jon as Executive Vice President.
